I've been a nude art model since 1984. I make enough at my day job that I don't really do it for the money anymore. I do it mainly to stay close to the art world, and to be part of an educational process. And if anyone saw the male nude art model contestant on the U.S. version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" last year, that was me.

And as far as keeping your feet from getting dirty....I've taken to wearing a pair of house shoes when I'm not on the model stand.

My undergrad degree is in studio art, and I was that person sketching all the nakid people! In my first session with a nude model, I remember being totally shocked for about 30 seconds, but then it requires so much work to produce accurate sketches that it was the last time I ever thought about it.

Working as an art model is great! It's even better when you are working for a professional artist, not just students. You get to see a wonderful creation that you had a small part of making. Also, you can meet some very funky and cool artists who really love what they do, who live for what they do, and who are good at it.

I wish I could have done it full time.

Only one thing, does modeling still only pay $10/hour? That's what I got way back in the early 90's when I was doing it. How about a raise, artists?

By the way, you don't have to be good looking to be an art model. Some of the great masterpieces are of subjects who aren't "good looking". It's the human form itself that's beautiful.

I modeled nude for a couple semesters back in my college days, and all in all I really enjoyed it. It's a really interesting job, and something I think most everyone should give a go at...you learn a lot about yourself.

I would realy like to pose nude for art. I do need some extra cash, and I think that it would be realy interestiong. Only problem is that I do not know where to get started. Do I just ask a art professor? I realy am not sure how to go about it. I just want to do it for art no sexual purposes. I think that it is beautiful and I am tottaly comfortable with myself about doing this. I f anyone can please give me some feedback on how to get started. Thankyou

I have been on both sides of the nude figure model dynamic. I earned my BFA in 1996 with a focus in figurative painting. After graduation I supplamented my income modeling for classes at the University and also for independant artists.

I'm in S.Illinios now and would love to return to posing for artists either clothed or nude. Email me if interested.
