Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

Hi All,

I just wanted to post this as a warning to people out there.... about a
company named Geo Holidays... aka Fairfield Affiliate.

We got a call from someone from Geo Holidays last week. This person claimed
that we had won one of 4 free vacation packages to various locations in the
world. He stated that every year his company chooses 4 lucky couples to
which are given free vacations. Instead of advertising on TV, radio,
billboards, etc.. he said they believed word of mouth advertisement is what
they want. We would enjoy our vacation so much that we would happily
spread good word of mouth. (We are in Toronto, Canada by the way).

Being skeptical I asked what the catch was. I asked this guy, "what will
you people try to sell me when I come there? is this in any way a
timeshare?". He assured me that there were no strings attached and that
nobody would try to sell me anything. We just have to go there and draw for
the prize (but said we had to be there for approx. 90 mins).

If I hadn't of entered a draw for a vacation at a store earlier this year I
probably wouldn't have gone at all.... but I didn't want to miss out if I
was mistaken. I also couldn't turn up anything bad for Geo Holidays when
searching on the internet....

Anyways, we drive to the place Saturday morning (our prearranged meeting
time)... and the sign outside on the building says "Fairfield Affiliate".
Interesting... the name Geo Holidays is seen nowhere (apparently they are
just a partner). Inside we were led to a room where we wait a while and
then every couple gets a salesperson sitting beside them to start talking us
into buying this vacation crap. "All we ask is that you keep an open mind.
When you get over the anger you have by how we got you all here, you will be
happy. At the end you just need to say yes or no." Yeah, right. This
strange black guy from Tennessee comes in and start making a big
presentation trying to be funny and all. The audience felt so fixed with
the agents everywhere... they laughed on cue... clapped on cue... like
puppets. The poor people in the front row should have been wearing
raincoats since that speaker guy kept spitting when he talked. The whole
thing felts like something out of the Twilight Zone... it felt like one of
those cults where you are waiting to take your special pill so the spaceship
will come and take us all away. Creepy...

The speaker goes on talking about points and a system called FairShare (but
explaining that it is not timeshare). He goes on mentioning it will cost
us $1066 to go anywhere in the world each year... blah blah blah....

He finishes... and it is time for our little salesman to continue to try to
talk us into it. He reminds us that we are guaranteed our free vacation no
matter what happens. Out of curiousity I ask how much this actually costs.
So... we go to a room with about 40 tables with paper and calculators on
them.

He slowly (and I emphasis slowly) explains everything to us. The total
cost for the package came out to about $40,000 something. The membership
is for 45 years. I'm thinking... these guys must be nuts!! And that is
just for the package itself... let alone the annual maintenance fees of
around $500. He does some calculations and says I will only have to pay
$900 per month to get this package. Yeah, right!! ha!! I told the guy
bluntly that there was no was in hell he was going to get a "yes" out of me.
He told me to wait while he got another representative to tell us about a
package he might not of heard about.

So... some lady who smelt like armpits came over and sat down with us. She
offered us another package that was for about $15,600 with much less
included (of course). But she said today they had a special on it and that
it was only $13,600. It came out to about $290 per month or something plus
the extra $400 maintenance fees (they write a US$ figure to make it seem
smaller). I told her even if it was $20 per month we wouldn't say "yes".
After talking for another half hour she said she wanted to talk to her boss
to see if there was anything else she could do. She comes back and says
there was a promotion on that she wasnt aware of and the price would
actually be $11,000. We still said "no". She made it seem that us saying
"no" just boggled her mind.... like she couldn't comprehend how someone
could say "no"! She told us that she was in this program herself and that
we would be fools not to join.

(Inbetween these discussions we are interrupted 3 times by people announcing
who has just bought the package. "Quiet everyone. May we have your
attention. Mr. and Mrs. Smith all the way from Toronto have just signed up
with us." <<Clapping>>. Again sounding so fixed and creepy. And when we
are talking about the packages when this happens the armpit lady tells us to
be quiet and listen.)

Still not understanding the answer no, my wife writes the letters "NO" on a
piece of paper a dozen or so times, shows it to them, and tells them that we
are leaving. They finally understand. They lead us to the prize office
and we draw our 3 days accommodation-only prize for Orlando, Florida.. and
we leave. At least we got something... but I won't fall for that again!!
These companies lure us in with deceit and lies... I don't understand how
anyone would hand over any money to people.

They wanted word of mouth from me.... and now I have fulfilled my duty.

Thanks

Jeff

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

I just received a phone call from Geo Holiday Services today. They said I won a free trip from some kind of contest. Did you ever use your prize for Orlando Florida? Was that a scam or did you actually get a free trip suffering from the crap you needed to
hear. I just want to know if it was worth wasting the 90 minutes to listen to their crap or if the free holiday was just a scam as well.

Thanks

Orlando Florida? Was that a scam or did you actually get a free trip
suffering from the crap you needed to hear. I just want to know if it was

I have received these offers and, as yet, have not taken advantage of them.
Be aware that even though the "lodging" might be complimentary (in exchange
for your 90 minutes, of course), there might be hidden charges. They may
legally be able to tack on "housekeeping" fees or "activity" fees which
could be $30- $50 or so.

Also, make certain that any thing they offer you is IN WRITING before
leaving. Make certain that you have a CONFIRMED RESERVATION number and a
written list of everything that is due to you after you complete the tour.
Don't just settle for "dinner for two" find out WHERE and the VALUE of the
dinner (call the restaurant to be sure). That way you don't end up with a
couple of Chicago Hot Dogs and Louie's place instead of the steak dinner you
are promised on the telephone.

I have worked for timeshare companies and they have a lot of leeway as to
what they can promise and what they actually deliver. Here in Branson I
have seen mailings sent out to prospective buyers with pictures of Andy
Williams, Bobby Vinton and other name acts with the statement that they
would receive "Tickets to a top Branson Show", when in fact, the tickets
that were received were to bottom-of-the-barrel no-name shows. Likewise,
they promise accommodations at one of "Branson's Finest" hotels which wasn't
necessarily true.

I have a cousin, on the other hand, who accepts these invitations on a
regular basis to Lake Tahoe and really enjoys it.

Just remember, if you aren't interested in the property, never udr money as
an excuse. Just say that you would never use it. It is the only objection
that they cannot overcome.

If you do go, let us know how it turns out.

SD

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

Yes, you are entitled a free vacation gift once the presentation is attended. This is no scam as they show their appreciation for coming by giving you a vacation on them! The 90-minutes is worthwile to get the free vacation, also if you want to save mon
ey. FYI, this is a timeshare presentation so if you're gonna be impatient, you'll never be satisfied even if you get your gift. Everything will be negative to you because you think negative. I'm a vacation lover so it was worth my time. So if you love
vacations, all you're devoting is a couple of hours. Sounded good to me and I saw the value in it for my family that's why I'm now a member =).

Hi, we've just received a call from Geo Holidays as well. Before going to the 90-minute thing, I'd like to know how long the free trip ended up being for you guys, if you had to pay anything once you got there (housekeeping fees, etc.), and if you had to attend any timeshare meetings during your trip.

Much appreciated!

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

Jeff,

We had the exact same call from GeoHolidays, and thank God for you because
the night before we went, we saw your post here. Out of curiosity (which
we would forever regret) we went to their 'NO OBLIGATION' presentation (90
minutes). Everything was exactly as you described--the eerie chanting and
robotic enthusiasm exhibited by staff!

Speaking of staff, they are all queers there. We had a very odd looking
girl from Ukraine who has a huge head, short neck and a very gangly body.
Everything about her was freaky. She smiles a lot and has a thick,
disturbingly annoying accent...but to her credit, when we told her NO, she
did not push. But then a nasty looking middle-aged woman (wearing a short
skirt and heels) barely even 4 feet tall came out and started talking to
us like we were stupid. Up to that point we already knew what we were in
for, thanks to your post, but we had played nice in order to get our
'guaranteed' prize. I lost it when Maria Lugert, this ugly, pudgy woman
(once again, I must stress she was wearing a short skirt) talked down to
us like we were so stupid not to take the deal. They want you to sign away
(and pay for) the next 45 years of your vacation right there on the spot!

We were the first to leave. Of course, we were led to 'draw' for our
prize, which turned out to be the same 3-day accomodation only prize Jeff
got. I think all the ballots in there were the same -- 3 day hotel
accomodation in their crappy buildings. As far as we knew, during that 2
hours we were there, NOBODY bought anything. I looked around many times
during the 'pitch' and everyone was looking pretty miserable and cautious
as we did. Thank God.

I did give Maria a few very rude cheeky remarks about their 'program'. I
would have said more except my husband thinks that we shouldn't let them
get to us since we already knew what they were all about. He's right. I
just hope that next time anyone gets a call from GeoHolidays or Fairfield
they will read this before they decide to attend. Seriously, it is NOT
worth it.

I think it's a scam. I will now make it my mission to spread the word. I
would never recommend anyone going there even just to pick up the 3-day
accomodation prize.

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

Geo Holidays just called me. They told me that there will be twenty five
couples at the 'prize givaway', two couples will each win a trip for a
week with airfare included and one couple will win a brand new BMW. I'm
glad you all posted your experiences. Its still tempting, but maybe my
evening would be better spent cleaning out the gutters. Thanks

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

Hi!
(Firtst of all I have to say Sorry for my English, it's my second
language)
Now, the story. Please, read it till the end!
Me and my husband just had an ugly expirience there- GEO Holidays. They
promissed us a gift-vacation for attending 90 minutes presentation, that
why we came.
It was not 90 minutes! It was 3 hours. They tried to make us to purchase it
(3 sailspersons!!!one after another, but we didn't agree)
they did everything not to give the gift vacation to us, after they
understood, that we will never, never purchase a timeshare there. How they
did that- they just said: ok, wait 5 minutes, there is a line in the gift
room.
So, we had to sit and wait almost an hour!I started to talk to another
couple and the management saw it and didn't like it, so they took us to
the gift room right away! No line was there of course!
but when they finally gave the prize to us- it was not what they
promissed on the phone! So, we sad to them- that they didn't tell the
truth and this is not solid at all for a company that they say they are.We
don't want to deal with them. The manager was SO angry at me at that
point!
It ended ugly:I had to call the police, because their manager was so
aggressive, when we were leaving he jumped and hold my husband and i was
afraid my husband will be hurt by him. The man was very big and tall and
he screamed at my husband very loud. I was trying to reach my husband, to
stand with him , but the manager pushed me away again and again, at that
point i screamed too. I didn,t know what they want from us now? To force
us to give them a cheque or a credit card? What?
The sails people-women hold (!) my hands, while the manager was holding my
husband and I thought he was bitting him.I started to cry. I felt
helpless! People cane to the room and nobody tried to help us! Yes, the
work there and they didn't want to lose the job.
The manager screamed: I know your address, I bet you will have problems,
you don't know who i am e.t.c... (actually, I am worried now: they do have
our personal information!)
Then the women let me go and I called 911 from my cell.
When they saw that I called the police- they called the police too,
telling that... I have bit somebody! The police came soon and we explaind
what happened. The sales people told absolutly faulse stories about what
happend there.
I heard Police Officer said to them , that they can't believe that
stories, because they all represent one company and of course they will
tell stories against us!
The police officer asked us if we want to go to the police and to open a
criminal charge against them. And the company will open a case against us,
because they will say that I bit them!
we decided not to open a criminal charge against them.We didn't have time
to go to the police, we had to come home- to our little son, who was with
the babysitter. That was the only thing we thought about.
May be we HAD to go to the police station? oh,who needs this dirt? We were
so tired and i personnaly felt like i was raped!

Now, we feel so bad. We will never go to timeshare presentation again!I am
glad it is behind us.

The only thing I am still worried about: they have our personal
information.Who knows, what they can do?
And another thing- during the fight, the manager said that because of us
he lost clients and he will go to court etc.
(Because of us?? Because of them they don't have clients! Because they
behave like that!)

I feel bad and so stuipid because we went there...It was a stuipîd idea,
really.

what do you think?
Thank you for reading this.

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

Hi everyone,

I hope very much, most of you how posted in this tread, read from time to
time the new postings here.
I made my experience with Geo Holidays, unfortunately for me,
before I had the chance to read your warnings.
In two words, my husband and myself ended up signing a contract with them.

I still do not know how did it happened. We did not plan at all
to do so going to their presentation. Quit the opposite.
We were attacked by 4 sales persons plus the manager, for 4 hours, and
about midnight, I realized, we are signing a contract, which we do not
need and paying the down payment of 15 hundred CAD.
By the way, we live in Toronto.
The procedure was the same, how you describe it.
Now, we want to find a way to get out of the contract and if possible, get
our money back. It seems not easy. The contract is prepared in a way that
legal attack will be very difficult.
We want to go for publicity, it seems to me that this is the only way to
make them bent.
I would like to ask you for help.
I am going to post my e-mail address and ask you
to contact me.
My idea is, to contact the media, CBC radio, for instance.
The more people with similar experience, the better.
If you agree to repeat in front of a journalist, what you have described
in this forum, we can help a lot of people not to fall in this trap, and
possibly, my husband and me we can be released from the obligations which
we got ourselves into and get our money back.
Please, contact me at mima.staikova@sympatico.ca

Thank you in advance.

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

Hey everyone,
Thanks for saving my time but putting these posts up on the board. I
live in Toronto and also recieved a call from them. I have only been
talking on the phone to a lady calling herself Algira 416-964-2158 ext:
239. I also started asking more questions and found out what they claim
to be the chances of winning each prize. 1st price is 10% second 20% 3rd
price 30% and 40 prize 40%. They also claim the value of the prices range
from 5K to $50.00.
Anyway, I gave them a call back and asked them to remove me from their
calling list today. Well see how well that works.

Cheers,
Trevor.

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

Hi everyone,

this is to update you on our story with GeoHoliday.
I have to tell you that it has a happy end.
It is obvious for the reader of my first posting in this tread how
terrified and upset I was, realizing that my husband and me have signed a
contract that does not correspond to our needs.
Reading the full contract next morning after we sighed it it seemed to me
that there is no way out of it.
It turned out to be different.
We wrote a letter to GeoHoliday, explaining that we would like to
terminate the contract. We had numerous conversations, on the phone and in
person with the business manager.
There were not able to cancel the contract all together, but they offered
us to substitute it for such called "test drive", trial membership program
for 3 years, with one week vacation each year, plus one bonus cruise
vacation.
They were acting professionally, and with respect to us as their
customers.

Now we are looking forward to our first vacation experience with
GeoHoliday. We will keep you posted.

Wow, Geo-Holidays! I did a search on the net before I too went to a presentation, but unfortunately this information was not here!

My experience is similar.. I'm left with bitterness, anger and astonishment..

So many strange things, like the way they insist on taking your coat away somewhere when you walk in.. is this so that you feel "trapped" and can't leave early? The room where we got the lecture with seats arranged like an airplane.. The sales-guy, hyped up and reeking with cologne.. The way all the staff laughed and clapped and jumped up on cue.. The "high energy" music that played in the sign-up room! Bee Gees, You Should Be Dancing, and Cher - Believe, not the originals but extremely close remakes, maybe they can't use the originals in a business setting? The disgusting and obnoxious way past middle aged "lady" in the short leather skirt who pushed and pushed us to buy.. finally she told me if I didn't take my wife on these holidays she (my wife) would leave me and find someone who would! I'm not making this up! I'm telling you it's a cult! The weird birthday celebration they were having for one of their staff.. staged to make them seem like a happy family? The presentation guy looked like Ned Flanders on The Simpsons. This special low low offer expires in 10 minutes! Sign up now now!! Only $14,000!

My wife almost fell for it.. myself, I'm a jaded and sarcastic non-believer. We collected our prize, naturally the lesser of the three advertised, and never even used it. It had to be a rip-off too.

Do NOT go to a Geo-Holidays seminar!! This is in the same class as Amway-Quixtar and $cientology. You've been warned.

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

I too had such a call, my spouce and I went last night actually, and I knew
once we were there what was going on, and yes, as Jeff described his
experience, it was that and everything. I kept trying to calculate the
difference if I paid for such a holiday on my own. The costs look great.
Yes, 45,000 vacation plan seems like a lot. Yes, it was clear my "agent"
was well coached, right down to whispering to us it was his birthday, and
he got the cake.....if it's a scam, kudos to all for such a great front.
I don't think it is fair to say as Jujubes did that they are all queers,
all the folks during our experience were straight, and very beautiful
looking and in good shape, like all they do is vacation. Tall good looking
blondes, nice looking athletic types. We are "queer" so our experience
was with straight people selling a product. Hard selling that's for sure.
I am willing to put out the 45,000.00, but now after seeing this site,
and my kids won't like hearing this tomorrow morning, but thanks to this
string being on-going, we'll book our own holidays. I'm afraid we'll go on
one of their trips and see that it isn't what it looks like in the
presentation and be stuck in the middle of no where. Glad to see one
posting by a vacationer who spoke well of this vavation plan. Thanks for
keeping us informed, hopefully someone with a positive storey will write
in. Manx in Ottawa, Canada

Kotya, thank you for writing in with your story. You may have saved my
family from a similar experience I am sure. I noticed that too, they
didn't want us talking to other people. strange.

Re: Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate) - my experience

I have bad experience too. I got into the contract and now I wanted to get
out of the contract. They won't let me. They tried to get more money from
me. I think we should post up everywhere to talk about this experience so
other people will not get into the trap and fall for this. We should tell
the media, newsgroup. If anyone have the same problem, please speak up.
More people speak up, it will be more powerful. Would you all be my
witness to help solve this problem together?

Thanks,

R

Exclamation Geo Holidays (aka Fairfield Affiliate)

Just got off the phone with Wendy from Geo Holidays... maybe it was her constant reminders that I wasn't being scammed into buying something that set my 'spidey sense' tingling? Perhaps it was the insistance that I bring a mate? But I am single and don't have a girlfriend right now I replied, what if I bring my friend? Oh no, only couples are allowed, man and woman.

A quick google confirmed my suspicions. Thanks for keeping this thread alive.

And now to forward this link to everyone in my address book as a pre-emptive stike against this farce called a contest. I am almost considering going just to see how much fun I can have messing with their heads...
