Re: Belize - Turtle Inn or Robert's Grove Inn
That pretty much describes all of the Placencia peninsula.
I've stayed at both Turtle Inn and Robert's Grove, and both are great ... but
different.
Robert's Grove -- the deluxe suites are the only way to go here -- is more of
an American-style resort with A/C, two pools, hot tubs, cable TV and in-room
phones, nice beach, free equipment and a main restaurant that serves steak
along with fish and some local dishes.
Turtle Inn is more exotic, with thatch cabanas, furnishings imported from Bali,
a fabulous zero-effect pool, excellent restaurant, but no A/C. Thus it's
important to get a seafront cabana to catch the sea breezes. The two-bedroom
seafront villas are absolutely fantastic, with wonderful Japanese-style baths
plus an outdoor bath. Mr. Coppola's villa has its own private pool.
If you want something less resorty and less expensive, you might look at
Mariposa, two beautiful suites on a private beach, and also places like
Barnacle Bill's, nice little beach cabins on stilts.
And there's always my old fave, Kitty's, especially the seafront cottages which
have king beds and A/C.

<< I am planning a trip to Belize in late February / early March. We are
looking for a place that has a great, quiet beach for swimming and relaxing;
close enough to take a trip to snorkel at the coral reef; and options for
trying the local fine dining without driving too far. Not looking for
the "night life" scene. Any recommendations?
