Why is Everyone so angry with Geo???
Hi There. My boyfriend and I just got back from Las Vegas, where we stayed at a nice resort, for a minimal fee. There, we had to go to a Timeshare presentation, which we knew in advance, so we were prepared to listen, be nice, then say "no." However, the presentation was very short and the reps were really not pressuring us too much. They told us that they didn't really need to pressure us, that the vacation club sold itself. They did want us to sign up, of course, but they were not rude. We looked at all the information, did the math. My boyfriend, being math genius, did all the calculations, which all added up. This is what we found out: Geo is GREAT for our type of traveling. We make plans no more than 45 days in advance. In fact, dating an actor or any other performer, doesn't allow me to take pre-planned vacations. We like the fact that 5000 points will get us last minute vacations. We also NEVER travel during peak seasons. If we do, then there is something VERY special going on. We live in NYC and love to travel, but over the years, including our trip to Vegas, can cost more and more every year. Geo did not promise us a car or money. In fact, there was NEVER any mention of a car or money. Reading all these posts makes me wonder why we weren't offered that kind of incentive. No FREE tickets, no empty promises. We paid less to stay for a few days and then listen to a presentation. I would have to say that our Geo rep was really nice, along with the Lawyer who spoke to us as well. They answered all out questions in a friendly way and never brought over a manager to pressure us. In fact, when the "acting" manager showed up and came back into the room, our rep had to inform him that we did buy into the vacation timeshare. he didn't even really blink an eye. He congratulated us and then my boyfriend asked if there were any Golf bonuses for him, since he was going to be playing more golf. The manager took out his business card, wrote down his cell number on the back and then had a lengthy conversation with him about the best places to play golf, where to eat...etc. I would have to say this was NO pressure. We don't make "spur of the moment" decisions like that...HOWEVER, we did attend a GRANDVIEW presenation that next day and were railroaded with insults and practically interrogated to buy into their timeshare with a DEED. Apparently, the Deed is important, so after 5 hours of sitting through their presentation, they wouldn't let us leave. Grandview wanted to bring over the BIG GUY, the manager who would make sure we would buy. We told them we already owned. they wanted to drive us back to the hotel to get out current contract and then have us call and cancel that one right there. The Rep, named William was very rude towards the end and asked us what was wrong with us. We simply smiled and told him we knew it was a great deal, but "no thank you." They practically shoved us out the door with no goodbye. I was very unhappy with them after having a wonderful timeshare experience Grandview presented to 100 people at the same time. GEO holiday presented to 6 people and were very nice, real, cordial. I appreciate that they did not promise us anything. They told us that Geo was good for us, because of the way we travel. They knew we could buy more points, but we don't have kids and are young, so don't bother getting what you don't need, I was told. They never told us that sunshine was coming out of their pockets. They said it wasn't for everyone at all and that some people don't like timeshares; some do. I would have to say that I respect people who were offended and I feel terrible for the people who were scammed in some way. I don't like that you encountered rude reps, because we have for other companies. However, when we got home, we called the new member number and spoke with the main rep, sharon for over 1 hour. She didn't even have our member paperwork or number yet and kept talking to us on the phone, with all our ridiculous questions. We kept asking her a million things, because we just wanted to make sure it wasn't a mistake and she told us it was smart to do research and ask a lot of questions. I think that timeshare is not for everyone and like Cruises and Hotels, there are good reviews and crappy reviews. I have worked for Carnival, RCl, NCL, and Oceania Cruises for years. I can tell you that we have had MAJOR complaints and lawsuits. One thing you need to know is that the people who complained the most and even 2 families who sued Carnival, took the most repeat cruises out of everyone. I find that pretty difficult to swallow. If you hate something so much, then why keep buying into it? Life is messed up and not fair. Pick and choose wisely, but if it works for someone else, then let them live in peace. I'd love to talk to anyone about this. I'm not working for Geo. I have no idea who does. I would like to speak to some previous employees myself. We are real people and live in Manhattan, Times Square. We are not wealthy, but have enough and life is pretty good. Perhaps Geo won't always be fair and sometimes we won't get everything we want, but we will try to make the best of this.
Thanks for reading.
