Job Story: Crying as I read these stories...nursing is horrible!

Hang in there. It will get better if we take positive action on our feelings of dread. I have been a nurse for 17 years. I have been where you are. I decided to either get out or jump in. People will always be sick and dying. They need us to make a difference in their lives. I believe we can.

Remember the excitement you felt when you passed boards? Try to tap into that and look for ways to improve working conditions. If you work somewhere that will not listen to you, look elsewhere. I found a hospital where I can make a difference.

If we work proactively, educate ourselves and then the nay sayers, we can make a difference. It won't happen in my life time but it can in yours. Please, don't give up on such a noble profession.

Your story mirrors mine. I got out of nursing last year after four years and I'm glad I did. The last full year I worked as a R.N. I made $60,000, but nursing is proof positive that money can't buy happiness. And I disagree with the idea that it will get better. This is a problem across the board because corporate greed runs the nursing/medical profession. Sorry to sound so negative, but it is the sad truth. Life is too short for nursing drama.
