Do you know the labor laws in your state?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm also a swing manager but I'm 33.In PA where I live and work I don't think they would ever hear of a 16 yr. old working those hours and being a swing manager. Our minors can only work no more than 7 hours at a time with a 35 minute break...that's on the weekends. They are only allowed to work 4-6 hours during the week with a 35 min. break and they can only work till 10:30pm.
I don't know..just sounds strange..must be really hard to be a teen where you live.
Believe me I know what you have wen through and I feel for you. thanks for sharing.

mickey d's

I'm just a crewperson at a McDonalds located in Nova Scotia Canada, and I really like it. We have virtually no labor laws yet the franchise owner and all the managers make certain that crew gets any time they request off as long as its before the next schedule comes out.... and as for the food on the floor - if ours looks like its even going to fall on the floor - we just let it and make it fresh - customers dont seem to mind waiting for something hot and fresh rather than quicker service for a slab of meat and bread falling all over the place.... so anyways i guess my point is that maybe this is just your mcdonalds... try another one and if u dont want to, go work somewheres else ( btw, im making 7.10 CAD .... so i wouldent complain about ur 7.70 or whatever american.... i'd kill for that lol)

Get out of there!

I don't know what your financial situation is, but you seem like a really motivated person. You need to get out of your job and get one that appreciates you and will probably pay you a lot more money for less work! The thing about these crappy jobs, I suppose, is the good work ethic you build. I am currently a nurse and find my job challenging, but because I worked in so many service industry professions growing up, I don't find it impossible. Good luck!

Angry Agree

I must agree McDonalds is a terrible place to be working. I have never heard of a swing manager being so young before though. The Mcdonald's i work at is terrible and basically all the same things happen to me there, but not everyone there. The people who are popular; in social standings aren't discriminated against, the others are. Once i was told my drawer was $40 short and asked why, i had no idea and was just as perplexed as the manager seemed to be. I had to pay the $40 out of my own wallet straight to the manager and not ask anymore questions on the subject (no report was filled which seems very suss)

The story poster is working at the Square one missisauga mcdonalds. Seems unfair that you are paid so low for being a swing manager. I started working at a Ottawa ON mcdonalds 3 weeks ago and started at 8.00/hour and I am 17.

First off, you have to be 18 to be any type of manager. Managers get longer hours then the minors. I know your not working in the US the way your talking. And if you are, its a bunch of BS.

I'm 16 and work at a McDonalds in Florida. Its awesome. The people are great and friendly, and I admit, it has your flaws. Some people do sit around and do nothing, there are those lazy managers, there are kids who are high, but you know what?

You wouldnt be working there if you got paid that little, and did that much. No one demands to speak to you on the phone as such.

As far as I am concerned, your a petty little kid that either got fired from McDonalds for being a bitch, or your just stupid. This story seems completely untrue.

i am a senior swing manager

i am a senior swing manager

is your mcdonald's owner opperater/franchise just wandering
because our owner is invalved every day with his restaurants. if it's busy when he comes in it's nothing for him to hop in and help out. You see when it's owner opperator they seem to care allot more we follow proceedures to a tee.
i just got transfered to a wallmart mcdonalds to run it. when i left the crew were very upset because the mannagers i work with we care about our crew they did not want me to leave. but money talks so i went but all our manager's from store assistant and swing work together as a team works well. maybe you need to find a owner opperater mcdonalds. or put a complaint in to head office i'm sure they would like to know what is going on. we get paid for our preshifts so should you.

different restaurant, different story

I find it quite perplexing to hear of your experiences. I work for McDonald's Malta at the Gozo restaurant and I love my job. We're rather smallish with around 50 crew in all and five managers but this makes it a great experience - there's an awesome atmosphere of friendship and our management really cares about our restaurant. We adhere to all policies, clean regularly, stock well and do our best to do the job the way it should be done, and guess what - not just when the big guys are coming over. I get paid quite well by local standards and requests for time off are always honoured.

We've got a spirit of teamwork and most of us will go out of our way to help if it's needed, bringing stock from other restaurants etc etc.

I've noticed when abroad that McDonald's means different things in different countries and it's sad to hear it's the way you describe it. Thanks to everyone at work for making my experience such a great one!

Talking I feel u girl...

I work in a McDonalds and have for about 4 years...
it is horrible, its tru about the charging for sauces, the food falling all the floor, the managers with crew members, customers thinking they can have it their way and the bosses being a pervert for any piece of ass they see. You want it your way then go to Burger King and if u want it fresh then go to Subway.
I don't care what u people have to say about your "heavenly mcdonalds" and telling either me or her to quit because eventually it will happen as to you guys, it is ur career. For me its a stupid little part time job that i dont take seriously. Any dumb ass who didnt graduate from high school can get to where u are. You only say that shit cuz u are so fuking stupid u wont get hired anywhere else and if u do, u will get fired cuz they will not want to keep you.
As for me im in my 3rd yr of college majoring in Forensic Psychology and i go to the gym to get perfectly fit for my career so I stay there because i hardly have an availability schedule.
So shut up and if u dont like what she has to say then either turn to anotha website or click da [x] on da right hand corner cuz we dont care wha u have to say. Its a free country so eat it biotch!

Whoever wrote this is retarded. I work at a Mcdonalds in NY run by the corporation and they had managers who were 16 years old working 8hrs shift and after 9:30pm and sometimes without a break regardless of all the violations they recieved.
Mcdonalds does pay little for the work they want you to do.
As for as Im concerned the person who claims to be a "real mcd's worker" is only getting paid a lot for sleeping with the right people which is disgusting. So slap yourself and get real cuz we all know the reality.

Thank you for reminding me. I almost went back. It is exactly as you say. I remember. remember to breathe while you are there. Also don't let them get to you. Do what you can, when you can and keep your chin up.

Red face

sounds like bs
your to young to be a manager
I have worked for 4 owners in 2 states and know that if your under 18 you dint get overtime

in Washington if your grades drop you lose work authorization

People with bad attitudes*like you are often treated poorly because you are a lousy worker and they want you to quit

the youngest manager I have ever seen in any state was 17 and they started at 15 and have prooven them selves worthy. including time management showing they can handle the job and there priorities

Mcdonalds trying to act like it is "hip" with the lower class and minorities. No one's buying you stupid clown. Here's an idea Ronald. Post your ******* store hours somewhere. Have you been to the Mcdonalds site? You can't find store hours anywhere. Why else would someone go to the site, unless they wanted hours or location. They are retarded(the people in charge that is).

I've gotta say, alot of your McDonalds sound horrible to work at, but the one I work at is awesome. I'm a Swing Manager, I'm sixteen and a part-time employee (obviously). Swing Managers shifts during the week are either from 4-8 as the Dinner Floor Manager or 7:30-11:30 as the Closing Manager, that's all. We can take off any time we need, I make 10.00 an hour automatically (all Swing Managers are raised to that at our Store) and our bosses back us up 100%. We worry about our own labour, and our Store Manager/Salary Managers (2) some times tell us that we have kept labour too low. I don't know it just seems like the McDonalds I work at is the best one I've heard of on this forum. Also, there's no corruption within cashing and whatever because we have 1 security camera at the Side Managers Office where we count the safe and the money. And our accountant re-does all of our counting and looks over everything on our deposits. Sorry if you work at a bad mcdonalds!

Taking pride

Okay seriously did I see the word, "perplexed" in the comments? Lol.
You do realize there's little to no chance of any Mc Donalds employee using that word, or even understanding what it means, right? Lol.
I also find it amusing that someone would take such pride in flipping burgers and pulling froze taters out of a deep fryer.
That OWNS.
Omg when I'm BBQ'ing burgers in my back yard during the Summer taking such precision in flipping burgers, making sure I've placed the cheese just right for maximum melting, REALLY focusing to toast the buns, but then I just have visuals about....
What if?... What if I was flipping burgers in full MCD's costume.
What if I was the 'Fry Guy'? What if......... "Can I take your order?"
In my dreams replaces a house full of drunken sorority babes. What if I had a degree from burger training university.
What if I had Ronald McDonalds seal of approval........
Now now, I can only dream about such a thing. EVEN if I got paid 20$ an hour I could never take pride or enjoy flipping burgers.
I realize you're young, but you're better off just becoming some sleazy hooker or a crack dealer. You're welcome for the advice.

Sincerely,
Cumfarmer.

Well, first of all, all McDonald's have different policies concerning age requirements. For that store, which was run by corporation, it may be lower. But for someone like me, who works at a owner/operator store, it's 18. >.>

I've actually worked at two different McDonald's. One was a Mcd's in Chevron, then I was transferred to a Mcd's in Walmart that was owned by the same man. To describe the atmosphere when I changed stores was like night and day.

About the lazy managers, try talking to your District Manager. I bet he/she could motivate them a bit. *devilish grin*
And really and truly, when you complain about having to work in an understaffed restaurant and doing crew duties, isn't it your responsibility to jump in when the crew needs help? I know I do when it gets rather busy and I have someone on the grill who isn't too good at it yet. Or hop onto one of the registers when the line gets a bit long. It just comes with the package. Even I get scheduled for grill sometimes. We don't have a drivethru where I work, so I don't have to worry about that, lol.

Trust me, I used to hate it when I became a swing manager at the Chevron McDonald's. But once I moved, my stress levels drastically went down. After 2 months of being a swing manager, I finally learned everything I was supposed to know that the Chevron Mcd's never really show me how to do, which means I can close/open by myself, do daily inventory, weekly inventory, safe control, preshift travel paths and positioning sheets, etc. It all depends on the store manager.

And don't say I don't know about understaffed. I've worked many many super busy days (ie christmas holidays in Walmart) with only 3 employees on the clock. Yes, THREE employees.

But I see no sense in that you have to do your shift prep 30 minutes before your shift unpaid? Now that's a lot of BS. At my store, we always do shift prep and travel paths for 30 min. when we get there to start our shift. (ie our redbook and safe control counts)

If your really unhappy with your situation, try moving to another McDonald's and see if that works out for you. It worked for me! I agree with someone else's post that owner/operator stores are the best. I really do love working for Earl Wurzbach. xD

Oh and for the person called Spam? Your a tard.

You don't see store hours on the website because all stores close and open at different times. Some stores are even *gasp* 24 hours!

Gawd, if you really want to know store hours and care that much, go to the store locater on the corporate site and find a McDonald's or two in your area. I assure you won't be disappointed. ._.

Thank you all for your time!
