Re: Comdex: R.I.P.
I cant believe COMDEX lasted as long as it did. I was an application
software salesperson for several startups over a period of 15 years,
and the money companies would invest in COMDEX was rediculous
considering what they got out of it. Of course this was back in the
go-go 90's, before the bubble burst. This was back in the days when
venture capitolists would throw millions of dollars at any M.I.T. or
Ivy grad with a chalkboard and an idea. This was back in the days when
salesguys would fly first class to visit a prospect when a
teleconference would have been sufficeint.
Hell, I'm not complaining. The company I worked for in 1999 flew me
out to Vegas from Boston 13 times that year. Tons of fun baby!! But
now that the bean counters are running the businesses and the party
money has dried up and gone away and you dont see "executives" with
the title of "VP of Really Great People" anymore, I'm not surprised
COMDEX is gone.
And dont hold your breath -- it aint coming back anytime soon.
