Comdex: R.I.P.

In a remarkable display of frugality, so many major exhibitors gave
Comdex a thumbs down the convention has been cancelled for the 2nd year
in a row. They're holding a Comdex Lite in Athens, Greece instead.
Hey Vinnie...call off that order for extra strippers in November!

The future of Comdex is in jeopardy. But it's not like Las Vegas
doesn't have enough convention traffic to keep the place pumping, right?

Damn! First I canceled my trip to DEFCON and now I learn that COMDEX
is canceled again. My excuses for going to Las Vegas this year are
eroding away!
Does anyone know of a suitable tech conference later this year?

it's not later this year, in fact it's may 1, but NetWorld+Interop's coming
up:

Greg (in (NOT FROM!) Texas) <-- is it June (20-23 at Wynn Las Vegas) yet?

- "The fact is that due to Wynn's "screw 'em everywhere in the building"
mode of operation it will be a tremendous ripoff."
- "He makes his living off dumb rich people."
- "Total ripoff, even for people who can afford it in the blink of an eye."

Re: Comdex: R.I.P.

I cant believe COMDEX lasted as long as it did. I was an application
software salesperson for several startups over a period of 15 years,
and the money companies would invest in COMDEX was rediculous
considering what they got out of it. Of course this was back in the
go-go 90's, before the bubble burst. This was back in the days when
venture capitolists would throw millions of dollars at any M.I.T. or
Ivy grad with a chalkboard and an idea. This was back in the days when
salesguys would fly first class to visit a prospect when a
teleconference would have been sufficeint.

Hell, I'm not complaining. The company I worked for in 1999 flew me
out to Vegas from Boston 13 times that year. Tons of fun baby!! But
now that the bean counters are running the businesses and the party
money has dried up and gone away and you dont see "executives" with
the title of "VP of Really Great People" anymore, I'm not surprised
COMDEX is gone.

And dont hold your breath -- it aint coming back anytime soon.

thanks,
