Bowling is an inexpensive option - bowl a few games, drink a few beers,
keeps you out of that hot summer sun! Don Laughlin's car collection is
a nice way to spend an hour, and it's free. Both at the Riverside.
Or, if you're into motorcycles, come during the Laughlin River Run.
Jet-ski rental on the river.
They book some decent entertainment too. We went to Laughlin for our
anniversary in November of 2001 (everybody was talking about the Arabs
attacking Las Vegas next) - Harrah's had Willie Nelson at their outdoor
venue. Fantastic concert, the guy came out, picked up his guitar, and
just flat out played and sang for 2 solid hours.
There's an outlet mall across the street from the casinos, for those
who are so inclined - they have a movie theatre attached, believe it's
4 or 5 screens.
OK, yeah, pretty much out of ideas now. Back to the big 3 : eat,
drink, and gamble - possibly all at the same time. But, if it's just a
day trip, you can probably keep yourself amused without spending too
much time gambling.
They used to do free Laughlin day trips here in Phoenix 10 or 15 years
ago. Think they are something like $5 or $10 now. The bus would pick
you up at a mall parking lot at like 3 or 4 AM, hit a few more pickups,
drive to Laughlin and dump you at the Flamingo or the Colorado Belle,
give you a coupon book, leave again around 6 or 7 PM, back to Phoenix
around midnight. Did that once or twice, wouldn't do it again. I
think those free Laughlin day trips kind of lost their allure when the
Indian casinos started opening around here.
