Re: Gold spike hotel and casino

The Gold Spike is so bad a hotel, it is actually charming in its own way.
The copper mine of REAL penny slot machines is cute and the snack bar isn't
as bad as we all joke about it. In June it is the home of the Big Empire
Soiree. I would stop in for afew mintues just to see it and then leave. Go
to a more uptown casino like the El Rancho...

Re: Gold spike hotel and casino

The snack bar is quite dreadful, and I happily can't report on the
quality of the hotel rooms, but the Spike is a must-visit for any Vegas
tourist. This is what a casino should be. Drifters fresh off the street
who have sold blood to get money for slots or blackjack. Dealers who
often are confounded by math. An overall sense of despair.

I love the place.

Re: Gold spike hotel and casino

Hotel is far from swank....But the beer is cold and cheap if not gambling.

Lots of sots and other undesirables hang around this place.

The Gold Spike is an excellent value if you're looking for the cheapest
possible trip. Go to cheapovegas.com for a review of the Spike and all
hotels in Vegas.

Re: Gold spike hotel and casino

The Western Hotel & Casino is cheaper. The casino layout is simple I
won at the 25 cent roulette table! The crowd is friendly many customers
talk to themselves. The snack area wasn't tried but the overhead neon
lighting gave the place a late 20th century atmosphere. Am I the only
NG member already nostalgic for the 90's?

I love the place, only place I gamble at. I don't recall
seeing anyone with a full set of teeth, let alone a dozen
teeth.

Some of the best times I've ever had in Las Vegas were had playing
$3.00 blackjack and talking and laughing with people I would never
have the pleasure to meet in real life. I love The Spike but hesitate to
recommend it to others.

If Terrible's can inded be had for 2 (or 10) dollars more, it would ne
a much nicer place to stay. But the Spike oozes character - I've
always wanted to stay there myself, but haven't yet (where did you
find the rate ? last time I checked, they didn't have online prices
which was one of the reasons I haven't stayed yet).

Ik wens jij een prettige vacantie,

Thomas W.
