Caribbean Princess - recent formal nights

We were on the Caribbean Princess last October on a hurricane shortened
cruise and found that very few passengers followed formal night dress
recommendations. Perhaps it was due to the shorter cruise, but we are going
back on the same ship in 2 1/2 weeks and wonder what others may have found
in more recent cruises. We do enjoy formal nights, but it appears to be
less and less followed, and we're willing to go with the flow. I wouldn't
go to the regular dining rooms without dressing up, but the Cafe Caribe was
a very pleasant experience.

Thanks,
--

On 7 day warm weather mass market cruises formal wear seems to be going,
going, gone... I stopped bringing my tux a few years ago and switched to
a dark suit.

On shorter 3/4 day cruises, I think the time has come to do away with
formal nights entirely. I went on a 3 day RCI cruise last year where
formal night just looked like a bad version of a high school prom.
Problem is, it's such a huge revenue builder for the cruise lines: tux
rentals, photo and portrait sales, flower sales, and gift shop sales of
that shiny sequined stuff for women (which would look better hanging on
a Christmas tree.)

Perhaps some of the inventive minds in this newsgroup could come up with
a new and imaginitive source of revenue that would allow for the
deletion of a few formal nights?

Maybe I'm a little rebellious, but the one cruise I went on thus far, I just
wore a dark blue blazer, tan pants, and loafers on formal nights. About
half the folks (I thought) looked like fools in rented tuxes. Many were
dressed just like me. I was totally comfortable. Then again, I'm from
California.

It's ironic that some of the REALLY upscale cruises are all casual. Shows
you rich folks don't really like formal wear, I guess.

Greg, we were on the Caribbean Princess this past January, and many dressed
formally on the nights that it was requested...tuxes, dark suits, cocktail
dresses, short and long.. plus some ladies wore dressy pantsuits..You won't
be alone!
Seems the buffet was very busy too, they had dressed the tables with
tablecloths, silverware and crystal...even some of the people there were
dressed formally...Guess they just preferred eating in the buffet.. It was
quite a mixture..shorts, t-shirts, slacks, blouses, dresses and formal wear
all in one dining area!
