I would think this would be the beginning of an elderly exodus from the
state of Florida since you never really know if you happen to fall and hit
your head and be unconscious for a few days the damn state may just decide
to do away with you! My plans to move there are on permanent hold!

Oh come on now, it's just the first step in eliminating the rising costs of
nursing homes. When the plan is fully implemented, there will be no more
overcrowded nursing homes anymore. Hell, for that matter, no nursing homes
period. All that money spent on educating special ed. students? Gone!!
You know how when you go to Walmart, you have all those reserved parking
spots marked with blue signs? You'll be able to park in those spots in the
not too distant future. Just think of all the wonderful conveniences you
will be afforded when the plan is in full swing. Hitler was a visionary!

I would certainly think there could be an exodus from Florida - but not
for the reasons you think...

If the government is indeed allowed to decide when you die (as opposed to
YOU or YOUR GUARDIAN) wouldn't you think twice about living there? After
all, it's not uncommon for older people to contract some sort of fatal
disease, or be in the final stages of one. While there are always treatment
options, sometimes you have to look at the larger picture and decide
what's best for the person - not for the body.

If the government had its way, your body would be maintained no matter the
cost, pain or suffering to the person inside that body. Send an 80 year
old through chemo? Sure! Nevermind if the treatment will actually do
anything to improve the quality of life or anything. But you can't let
the paitent decide anymore - you MUST treat the body! Yeah, USA!
