VP preferences

Getting ready for an upcoming trip and have been practicing on Bob Dancer's
WinPoker. As I switch from game to game I find I'm confusing one game's
strategy with another so I'm thinking I should zero in on one game
exclusively. Just wondering what everyone's VP game preference is and why?

I still like JOB because it's not as high-variance as some of the other
games. This means that there will be a lot more small pays that keep you
playing. Jacks or Better pays 1, Two pair pays 2, 3 of a kind pays 3.
Compare to Deuces Wild where you don't get paid at all until you have 3 of a
kind. Granted, the wild cards make it easier to get a bigger hand, but DW
definitely has a lot more of the payouts on the top of the chart.

Double Bonus and Double Double Bonus are also good and easy to find.

I'd also recommend putting together some sort of cheat sheet for each game
to help rank the various plays you should make.

Re: VP preferences

I like Deuces Wild, Jacks or Better, and Bonus Poker. They all have easy
strategies to remember. Also, the JoB and Bonus poker stratagies are
almost identical, so if you master one, you've basically mastered both.

I'm not sure where you are staying, but I know the Fiesta on Rancho has a
lot of full-pay Deucees, Double Bonus, Double-double machines. As does
Texas Station across the street (although not as many).

Fiesta's machines are multi-denom and full pay whether you are playing
nickels, dimes or quarter. Texas, has dime, quarter, fifty cent denoms on
their full pays.

I have had the same experience with WinPoker, and finally settled down
to where I play mostly double double bonus and bonus deuces, (with a
little weird stuff from time to time just to break the monotony). I
think the odds of being able to last longer may be greater with JOB or
straight deuces, but I'm usually not anywhere long enough to worry about
that and prefer the chance the bonus games give for a larger hit. I
went to a local boat a few weeks ago for just one night and hit 4 3's
with a a,2,3,4 (800) and then 4 5-k (250) twice the next morning. That
was exceptionally lucky, but I was quite glad it was DDB and not JOB
where the total for the big wins would have been only 375 instead of
1300. The only time I do play something different is with Multistrike
where the money can go extremely fast and I find straight JOB usually
lasts a bit longer, (but the pay tables for it often suck).

Very easy to do Jim. My suggestion would be to first learn
Jacks Or Better. Once you have that perfect keep practicing
because you will make mistakes if you don't stay in playing
shape.

After you can play JOB perfectly then learn Deuces Wild.
DW strategy is similar to 9/6 except when a Deuce is in play.
Those differences are easier to separate from JOB than most
other games.

My favorite game is Double Bonus Poker, mainly because it
has the best return and is similar to JOB. It also has more
and larger payouts for quads than JOB. The downside is it's
the most difficult to play perfectly.

It helps to keep reminding yourself what game you are playing
because its very easy to confuse strategies. One way I've found
to keep on track is to constantly look at the pay table. If you
can associate the pay table with the strategy you've got it licked.

Bottom line: Practice, practice, practice ........

Re: VP preferences

I find that Jacks or Better and Bonus Poker are close to the same strategy.
Double Bonus Poker going for straights seems to be the predominant
difference.
Double Double Bonus Poker keeping any Ace is usually the thing to do.
There will be minor errors with this practice, but trying to go for the exact
strategy is to taxing on the brain.
Of course you mostly keep the pairs and winning cards that are dealt.
