More places like Isla Mujeres please!

Hi all!
Last year I was suggested on these newsgroups to bring my little family to
Isla Mujeres, Mx, which I did last January.

Isla was everything I could possibly hope for. My 4 yo had a blast, so did
we. We stayed at Posada Del Mar, which was more than adequate.

Now, I'm already in pre-planning mode for the next January vacation, I'm
looking for more of the same, but somewhere else just for the sake of seeing
different places. It seems like there is a lot of buzz about Belize and
Costa Rica.

I'd be great to hear from you guys about Isla - similar places in these
regions.

Thanks!
Sylvain

You might consider the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. We just went
there and stayed at the Coconut Palms Resort for a week with my neices, age
7 and 4. My sister and her husband said it was the best vacation they have
ever had since the kids were born.

Resort is individual apartments around a central pool, shuttle to the beach
(but it is walkable, mabye 1/3 mile) and shuttle to nearby towns of Cabarete
and Sosua.

Optional meal plan very reasonable, and half price for kids.

Re: More places like Isla Mujeres please!

thanks Juliana,
I'm looking more for a small beach town rather than a resort... features I'm
looking for are:

- everything in walking distance;
- good food at cheap price;
- safety..

Either Cabarete or Sosua would do then.

Everything is within walking distance.
Wide Range of food prices, from inexpensive street type cuisine to more
expensive nicer restaurants.
Seemed perfectly safe when we were there.

We liked the resort because it had everything except access to a grocery
store that you list, and with the inexpensive food plan one could eat very
inexpensively, or you could choose not to. The units have full kitchens,
so we were able to buy coffee and cereal and Milk for breakfasts, plus
cook a couple of dinners in, which was good for the kids.

Plus what was not within walking distance could be reached by the free
shuttle that the resort had to both Cabarete and Sosua.

I think you should think about the area. I think it has everything you want.
Maybe not that specific resort, but the area.

Then also take a look at San Pedro, Belize. Everything in walking distance
(as long as you stay at a hotel close in), good food to be found at
inexpensive prices (if you go to the right places), lots of grocery stores
and fresh veggie stands, and it's safe. That said, one caution, don't let
your little one be darting about on the streets. If you were to stay down
near Boca del Rio, you will very close to grocery, good inexpensive eateries
and a kiddies park on the beach.

Check Blue Tang Inn, The Tides, The Seven Seas and the Oasis.

Re: More places like Isla Mujeres please!

Do check out Costa Rica. There are several small towns along the Pacific
Coast that would fill the bill. Plus there are the day trips to the rain
forests, volcanos, etc.
