Polly Gonzalez, a news anchor for KLAS-TV Channel 8, the local CBS affiliate
in Las Vegas, was killed today in a one-car accident.

The accident occurred in Death Valley, California. The victim's two
daughters, ages 5 and 8, were in the car with her but were not seriously
injured.

Gonzalez anchored the noon and 4:30 p.m. news broadcasts for the station,
where she had worked for 10 years. I thought she was very professional and
low-key, certainly not one of those happy-talk types of anchors.

I find it strange that they don't list the exact reason for the
accident. Tire blowout? Drunk driving? Asleep at the wheel? Stuck
accelerator?

Sometime those details are not readily available at the time the first news
stories come out.

I'd be surprised if the Tuesday papers don't give the details.

California Highway Patrol says it appears her vehicle had started to drift
off the road and it flipped when she overcompensated.

Because it was an SUV, that may have had something to do with the fact that
her kids escaped mostly unscathed.
