Re: best photo spots
Voodoo lounge at the Rio. No cover till 8PM. If you have a quality SLR
with a good zoom you can get some great pictures as the lights begin to
go on, and you have the full panorama of the strip. 200-300 preferable
on the zoom, and make sure to have at least 800 speed film.
The fountains at the Bellagio. You'll find yourself taking shot after
shot. The key here is a camera with a quick lens response. A quality
point and shoot is just fine. I sometimes get better shots than with my
SLR. Again film speed important, 400 day, and 1600 yes 1600 at night.
Mirage volcano. Your collection will not be complete unless you catch
that stream of fire just perfectly. Pirate show at TI, though I prefer
not to stand and wait the amount of time it takes to get great shots.
The tower at the Paris. The small observation holes make it almost
impossible to use expensive equipment. A good point and shot with a
moderate zoom is best here. 130-140mm
Other don't miss shots. Paris from the Bellagio sidewalk. Botanical
gardens at the Bellagio. Welcome to Las Vegas sign, just south of
Mandalay Bay. Fountains at Caesars Palace. Courtyard at the Venetian.
Wynn Las Vegas, a little dull but how can you miss out getting a shot of
something that cost over 2 billion to build. If you get downtown make
sure to catch some classic Vegas.
Reminder if you are traveling by air and use my recommendations about
film. Make sure to request a hand check of all speeds above 400 at the
airport unless you have a film protective pouch. Secondly if your
primary camera is a digital P&S you can get some of the shots I have
suggested but don't expect great results at night, and considering Vegas
comes to life at night. That's why I go primarily with film.
