best photo spots

hi
I am heading to vegas for the first mid next month and would like some
advice on the best places to take some photos, hotels and otherwise. I
am only there for 3 days and it's jam packed, so I want to waste too
much time, then come back and realised there were better places to take
pics.
thanks.

I've always felt that the top floor of the Orleans parking garage
would yield some pretty good shots. You may want to check it out.

You can get some good perspectives of the Stratosphere from the LV
Hilton self parking garage.

With a good zoom you can get some awesome shots from the top floor of
the parking complex at the airport. Go to short term parking and take
the elevator to the top.

Any place high off the ground. The Stratosphere Tower, Eiffel Tower,
Mix at Mandalay Bay, Ghost Bar at the Palms, Voodoo Lounge at the Rio,
or one of the numerous footbridges crossing over the strip.

Re: best photo spots

Voodoo lounge at the Rio. No cover till 8PM. If you have a quality SLR
with a good zoom you can get some great pictures as the lights begin to
go on, and you have the full panorama of the strip. 200-300 preferable
on the zoom, and make sure to have at least 800 speed film.

The fountains at the Bellagio. You'll find yourself taking shot after
shot. The key here is a camera with a quick lens response. A quality
point and shoot is just fine. I sometimes get better shots than with my
SLR. Again film speed important, 400 day, and 1600 yes 1600 at night.

Mirage volcano. Your collection will not be complete unless you catch
that stream of fire just perfectly. Pirate show at TI, though I prefer
not to stand and wait the amount of time it takes to get great shots.

The tower at the Paris. The small observation holes make it almost
impossible to use expensive equipment. A good point and shot with a
moderate zoom is best here. 130-140mm

Other don't miss shots. Paris from the Bellagio sidewalk. Botanical
gardens at the Bellagio. Welcome to Las Vegas sign, just south of
Mandalay Bay. Fountains at Caesars Palace. Courtyard at the Venetian.
Wynn Las Vegas, a little dull but how can you miss out getting a shot of
something that cost over 2 billion to build. If you get downtown make
sure to catch some classic Vegas.

Reminder if you are traveling by air and use my recommendations about
film. Make sure to request a hand check of all speeds above 400 at the
airport unless you have a film protective pouch. Secondly if your
primary camera is a digital P&S you can get some of the shots I have
suggested but don't expect great results at night, and considering Vegas
comes to life at night. That's why I go primarily with film.

Similarly, the top of the Palms parking garage has nice views of the strip,
and it's a bit farther north (around mid-Strip.) I've taken some nice shots
from there. If you don't have a tripod and want to take night shots, you can
rest your camera on one of the walls and use the self-timer.

Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC the Orleans really doesn't have a
true parking garage but maybe a 2 level structure for valet only.

I agree with this one. I've got some very good ones from there which
I'll post shortly. It was *COLD* when I was up there, though.

Orleans erected a regular (or whatever you want to call it) parking garage
a couple of years ago at about the same time they built the arena. It's
attached to the northwest corner of the casino and to the arena (I think).
We haven't used it-I hate dragging luggage thru a casino to get to the
Registration desk-we use valet all the time.

The parking ramp at Rio also has great views.
