Aftershock three months later? Live and learn.

There's no tsunami, at least not at the time you or I are making our
posts.

Those people died as a direct result of the earthquake.

Not aftershock. More a "reverse correction" of what happened last Dec. from
what I read.

Reversing some of what happened last time. Relieving some of the pressures
that the last quake caused. Not unlike re-setting a broken bone.

At least that's what I read.

"At this point in time we don't know what type of fault occurred ... and
that is critical information we just don't have yet," he said. "It is in
the aftershock *zone* of the December 26 quake. It's a little bit south,
but it's on the same fault."

I missed "zone". Speed reading has its limitations. LOL

More like breaking some adjacent bone

The epicenter is about 100 miles SE of the December 2004 rupture zone.
No doubt, it was triggered by the Dec. quake, in fact it was one of two
that was predicted to occur as a result.

Cocos did report a 23 cm fluctuation from peak to trough on their sea
level gauge beginning about 2.5 hours post quake.

The quake struck as those poor souls on Nias were tucking themselves
into bed for the night. To make things worse for those already injured,
potential rescuers/health workers immediately ran for higher ground with
memories of the recent tragedy fresh in their minds.

Actually, it sounds more like blowing out your left knee after having
the right one repaired. The right becomes the stronger knee and takes
more stress, which the left can't handle.

Had a dog that blew out one knee about a year after having the ACL on
the other repaired. That's exactly what the vet said happened.

Now I remember that. Thanks for the reminder.

23 cm is about 9 inches. I'm not sure how they would differentiated
that from a wave. But that's why they're the geologists.
