Re: Going to Wal-Mart while in Port OT

Just a thought. When we lived on Long Island, depending location of
stores. we found great discrepancies re same stores but different
locations.
Could this be what is happening with Wal-Mart and other brand name
stores.? Location?
Charles, what you encountered has not been seen by me in our Wal-Marts.
One return desk, quite a few personnel there.waiting on customers. Every
employee I have encountered and inquired as to where can I find this or
that has given explicit instructions where it is located or walked us to
the area.

Sunny, this is very often the case. I have seen the difference in lets
say Olive Garden, in West Palm beach it was very good, back in NY/NJ
it was no where near as good. I would also see the prices being higher
up north.

Re: Going to Wal-Mart while in Port OT

There is a Wal-Mart in Marlton just above the 70/73 circle, and it is the
only Wal-Mart I have ever been in.

We go there when my 93 year old MIL needs certain clothing because there is
no reason to shop for it at Victoria's Secret, if you get my drift.

It is the only store in the United States that has told us every time we go
there that we cannot bring a clearly marked "Service Dog" into their store.
Not once, not twice, but for seven years.

I thought by law they had to allow service dog?

Unfortunately, no one passes that information along to the "greeters".

As I did......everytime I walked in. How many times can you hand the same
person the dog's ID card (regs are on the back) before you decide it best to
shop elsewhere?

Do you honestly think that the Wal-Mart greeter is going to understand the
21-page ADA guideline if he or she can't comprehend the 7-line
interpretation on the back the Heidi's certification card?

For as much as I roam around with the dog, the local Wal-Mart has been the
only place that has ever tried to stop me from entering. I have since
discovered that I can purchase Bubbe's unmentionables at Target. Shorter
travel distance, comparable price, and a more helpful floor staff.

I suggest asking for a supervisor. And getting their name. Also writing
a letter.

Which is what I did. The manager would walk over, look at Heidi's card, and
then apologize for the mistake and let me in the store.

When I got stopped for the fourth time, I decided that it wasn't worth the
aggravation. I wrote a letter to the corporate office. Still waiting to
hear back from them.....it's only been about 4 years.

It probably wasn't worth the aggravation. They must not give their
employees much training. That was an impression I got. Most companies
do that about the ADA at a minimium to at least avoid lawsuits. Maybe
Wal-Mart is so big they don't care.....

Charles and Danni,
Are the greeters at Wal-Mart paid employees? This might explain the training
part.

I am sure they would have to be paid employees. Why would anyone do it
for free?

Danni, I agree it isn't worth the aggravation. In your place I would
take my business somewhere else. There are plenty of other stores you
can shop in.

True, I guess I was in the *volunteer* mode when I posted that..Ed and I
both do volunteer work at the hospital and if I remember correctly, the
times that I did go into the store, the greeters looked of retirement
age...so it was just a fleeting thought. ;-)

I would call the sheriff or police and have THEM set them straight.

I believe the operative words were "tried to stop". Indicating that an
attempt was made.

That's the truth. WalMart has put a bullseye on its head but what goes
around. They have also a history of being extremely litigious as
Plaintiffs. Ever heard of The Rose Law Firm? Hilary was a Walmart Board
member for years and Walton (along with Tyson Foods) damn near bankrolled
(by guarantees supplied by The Stephens Group) Bill's political success in
Arkansas.

But, of course, as we all know, Walton/Walmart stand for Christian values
and all.

That must have been "snow" from Jesus and guns from Allah that was flown in
by Barry Seals (among others) into that Mena AR landing strip during the
late 70s. Of course, like any good CIA asset of the time, Seals got his ass
handed to him since one cannot do much damage after the IRS hits you for 30
mil in back taxes and they slop you away in jail for years. Ah,
Iran-Contrary.

Mena, now who owned that land? Hmmmmmmmm. Could it have been a blind
corporation, six levels deep, plausibly deniable by Sam Walton? No, no way.
How dare I say that.

Bad Chrissy.

Arkansas is one of the least populated states in the Union. you can drive
for miles and see nothing but cotton and soy in the Eastern part of the
state. There are tow distinct classes, haves and never will have. The
number of "famous" men coming from this state is amazing and the
concentration of wealth even more so. Walton, Clintons, Wilbur Mills,
Tyson, Dale Bumpers, take a look....

Why? If you are a "have" and play the game, you are in a small club with an
immense amount of resources.

To bring it back on topic - kind of like cruising. Like the people who
say you haven't been on Carnival unless you've tried one of their new,
bigger, better ships.

Still got your underwear in a bunch over that, don't you?

Considering the amount of work I did to get the law passed in the first
