Re: Congestion at San Juan Airport?

We went on AOS last October. Had no trouble getting to and from the airport.
The key when leaving to come home is to get to the airport as early as
possible. From AOS last year, we got off around 9:00, got our bags, got a
cab and were at the airport by 9:30ish. Had no lines at check-in or security
at that point. About 11:00am all hell broke lose and the lines were very
long. We had to wait for our 2 hours for our 11:30 flight but by getting
there early and getting through check-in and secuirty we didn't have the
stress of possibly missing our flight.

Re: Congestion at San Juan Airport?

Book a pre and post cruise stay in a hotel. At a minimum fly out late and
avoid the post cruise rush hour. Other options include a private jet

Hi Fellow Cruisers.
Am hoping to be able to firm up some plans to take a Southern Caribbean
cruise out of San Juan towards the later part of this year. From reading
various newgroup cruise posting it seems that getting to and from the San
Juan Airport to the cruise skips can be a experience in itself. Would like
to here any hints/suggestions that would make the getting to and from the
airport and the cruise ship a more bearable experience. Read were due to #
of people arriving/departing at same time to/from a cruise, lines can get
long and time consuming going through security, customs etc.

Re: Congestion at San Juan Airport?

We booked a quickie one week cruise out of San Juan, flying in the sail
date.

My mistake, and a number of posters here have suggested that pax do it was
that I attached my cruise tags to my bags back in Philadelphia.

When we got to San Juan, Danni retrieved her bags but mine never showed
up.at the carousel.

We cabbed to the ship, boarded without problem, and then waited to see if my
bags showed up.

They did, of course, because tagged bags go to the ship, but I didn't know
that THEN.

I do now and I don't recommend the practice if you have heart problems.

Re: Congestion at San Juan Airport?

Our problem was on Saturday. I wonder if Sunday would be just as bad.

Re: Congestion at San Juan Airport?

We were the only ship arriving on our day I think, (March 11) but it
wasn't bad at all. American and US Air have bag check in at the ship
terminal now, and it was fast and easy. They had tags already printed
and boarding passes ready for anyone booked on their flights (you still
had to show ID etc). They checked us in, and we just had to take a bus
to the airport and then go through security at the airport. No lugging
bags there! Everything arrived home in good shape.

Re: Congestion at San Juan Airport?

Was the air booked through the cruise line? Which ship were you on?

We booked through the cruise line, but they didn't seem to be asking -
just "anyone on American?" and "anyone on US Air?" I think it was done
by the airlines to avoid airport congestion.
