trip to dominican republic

hello

i'm visiting the dominican republic during april, for tourism and
studying business opportunities;
i'm a french salsa dancer and kitesurfer

i'd appreciate any information about those activities; as well as
french people experiment of settling down in this island

at last is there any way to rent a car at bargain price in santo
domingo ?
what about lodging ?

thanks
philippe

Re: trip to dominican republic

good luck to you on your business endeavors... do you know spanish also?
would help in a spanish speaking country.
when I traveled the Dominican last yr, the only french people I met were
Haitiens escaping from Haiti, and a couple of French guys who hooked up with
Haitien Girls!

Santo Domingo is a lg city, there is always good and bad hotels.
I backpacked the DR so I stayed in lower budget places in the Colonial
Section of SD. very cheap prices.. last I looked the $ was 23DP to 1usd.

I never rented a car because I found their local transportation to be
exceptionally good. Cheap fares, clean transport, not overcrowded, quick
and reliable. their are also 2 types of Taxi's the regular one and ones
that are specific to a certain area.. and they are shared..ie.. if you want
to go to a certain place, taxi A will take you there (they follow a specific
route and people get in and out as they want and the fare is very cheap.)
