Lynda it would help me and others to help you if we had an idea of some
of your interests. For example do you enjoy scuba diving, fishing, sail
surfing? Or, is your idea of activity working on your tan, doing a
little dancing after dinner or maybe you like to shop 'til you drop.

Do you want to visit a big city with lots of cultural activities, or is
a small island where you'd "get away from it all".

Do you want to sleep in a six star resort hotel where your every desire
is met and you are pampered like a queen? Or can you get by with fewer
stars and less pampering as long as the price is right?

Do you want to visit a country where english is spoken and your
country's currency is accepted equally with the local money?

Do you want to immerse yourself in local culture and cuisine? Or, would
you feel safer in one of those big All Inclusive hotels where everything
is right there at the resort hotel?

In other words, what is important to you while on vacation?

A woman fitting your demographic profile visited Anguilla some years back.
Here is her website: http://laine.ai

I would definately recommend trying Jamaica. It has a complete package.
While some islands might have the beach some lack the fun the lush
greenery and the mountains. Jamaica has this and more plus its the
third largest island in the Caribbean. We have all the award winning
resorts and we have hundreds of private villas on the beach available
for rent.

If you are looking for some serious fun I would highly recommend going
to Negril for your trip. If you are looking for some peace yet a little
fun I would recommend the Tresure Beach area or Port Antonio.

Take care and do enjoy when you go.

That's a little spendy, don'tcha think? You can have a similar experience
in San Pedro, Belize . . for quite a bit less.

Based on second hand accounts, I would give a similar recommendation.
A coworker here (black woman in her late 30's) went to Jamaica with
some friends on a package deal last year. She said the prices were not
bad and from her pictures it looked like she had a load of fun.

I personally really liked visiting the French side of St. Martin, but
that was with my wife and we were looking for a good place that a
couple could relax. Going by yourself you will probably want a little
more active environment.

You might consider the Dominican Republic for the same reasons. Beach,
scenery, award winning resorts, private villas, a long history (Columbus
visited it on his 1492 voyage and the Taino go before that) and three
mountain ranges. A huge biodiversity.

Just came back, great place

Hi Lynda,

I've traveled alone to more than two dozen Caribbean Islands. I might be
able to help. But I need answers to the types of questions that Brian asked
a week ago. Personally I like to island hop. Each island gets 1 to 4
nights, depending on the geographic size.

Also I see you are in Canada. What languages do you speak? If you speak
Spanish it gives you the Cuba option.

One can visit Anguilla and not spend a lot of money. I spent $20 a night
for a single with a private bath a few years ago. And it was nice to find
warm water after the sun had been out. But it was low end. A better example
would be Lloyd's: http://lloyds.ai/ $65/single, $85/double. Or an apartment
from this list: http://news.ai/directory.html#apartments

That's more like it. To my mind, the resort prices set out in the trip
report were outrageous.
