Worst Buffet I have ever eaten....

I have eaten at almost every buffet in town. All the casinos, and most of
the small Chinese ones as well. I actually prefer the nicer, clean family
run and operated Chinese buffets in tow. I am not choosey. I just want a
nice clean place to eat, good food, nothing fancy. HOWEVER, I ate at a
casino buffet that just takes the cake.

I am not a complainer in a restaurant. I'll place my order and politely
wait. If I ordered sour dough toast and white bread toast comes out, I'll
not eat it, but I won't complain. If I order over medium and sunny side up
comes out, ...well, it's still and egg and I am hungry. Even a steak, ...if
I order medium and it comes out well done it's no problem for me. It's still
a very nice steak and I am to hungry to send it back. I say "Good bread,
good meat, good Gosh, let's eat', and then I do so. However, even I have my
limits.

The Chinese Buffet at the Plaza is the absolute most undesirable buffet I
have ever eaten in. I know you'd want to heat the truth, so here it is.

The carpet looked like dogs and cats had messed on it. It was dingy and
dirty at it's cleanest points. It might have been the rave in the 70's, but
it is old and tattered now. The silver ware was old, nicked and bent in
places. The forks had tongs that closed together at the outer tips and
pinched your lips when you pull the fork from your mouth. The food must
have come out of old cans because it was bland, had no flavor and was not
worth the energy to open your wallet to pay. EVERYTHING was done on "the
cheap" in every way in my view.
The workers were fine. They were nice, said "Hello, good evening, very
nice to see you. May I take you to your table?" The tea glass was always
full and the table was bussed as needed. The workers there were the only
reason I (we) did not get up and leave. They were so nice and I did not
want to make any trouble for anyone, or make a scene. People make a scene
by going to the cashier and everyone starts whispering to each other,
....that is a scene as well to me. I'll just hold my nose and choke it down.

The room had dark red wallpaper that was so drab it actually had a mal
effect on the food experience. It was dark, to warm and just not worth the
experience. Along the left wall were temporary rolling buffet tables with
food under heat lamps. At the far end was the carving table, not bad at
all. To the right were deserts that were out maybe a bit to long, they were
dry. Do you know how long pies have to be ignored to be "dry". If it looks
this bad out here, what is it like elsewhere??
This is the type of room that is a bad representation of the Food and
Beverage Department managers. The workers and the Chefs work in the room
they are planted in by their bosses, so they have no say in it. But the
Food and Beverage Department does. And for this they want $8.95, plus tax
/per! That's not a lot, but you should always put your best foot forward
with no regard to the price. Not sorry, I think I'll just go elsewhere
next time. Maybe I'll go a step up in quality and open a can of potted meat
for dinner. Hell, Alpo would have been better.
The rest of the place was fine I am sure, but that one Chinese Buffet was
so bad that even humble quiet me will not return to it. The Plaza, sure,
I'll go back in a minute, but that buffet is the worst I have ever seen in
all the years I have been here.

Re: Worst Buffet I have ever eaten....

You should have gone to Ellis Island for their fabulous steak dinner.
Only $4.95. No substitutions, though.

Whoa.. Wait a minute Capt. Queeq... I seem to remember a "tomato
incident" from last year... Something about a very nice restaurant and
tomatoes... And lots and lots of complaining...

Re: Worst Buffet I have ever eaten....

Hi Uncle Peter, good to "read " you,
The experiences I have on a daily basis here in restaurants of all kinds
here in town are largely really good. I would say that it is 99% good. The
greatest restaurants in the world are right here in Las Vegas. Ellis Island
is a good restaurant, even the food at Ellis Island is great. Their
atmosphere is good, but they are so tight on their food budget that they
were not even 'selling" the tomatoes instead of the potatoes. Go figure.
Keep your customers happy, develop the bottom line and actually sell
something. Since that incident they seem to have changed their practice.
Now, they will "sell" you some additional food. OOOPS, go figure.... Someone
had just miss and that became the policy by fiat.

The Plaza buffet is not complaining, but letting people know what to
expect if they go into the Chinese buffet there. If someone came into your
home wouldn't you want the best ( or at least acceptable) to be available to
them. You would not want them to eat in the garage, right? A business,
and please, if I am wrong here, tell me, has to treat the customer right and
not shove them into a room, do everything on the "cheap", and expect to get
away with it.

Have you gone in the Plaza Buffet in last week or so to know what I am
speaking of? If you are able, go there and tell me what you think as well.
Don't get a mental picture of a normal Vegas Buffet that is nice, clean,
well lit, with a great selection. A man and his family of eight beside me
did get up and leave. Others were vocally grumbling. People should get
what they pay for in this city. If you purchase a meal it should not have
been out so long that you would feel guilty feeding to your Mother In Law.

If a buffet is bad, people need to know about it. The hotel need to know
that people know about it so that they will raise their standards and people
can have an outstanding experience. I understand that you want everything
to be a beautiful shiny well put together brochure, and it would be nice if
it were. When something is so bad that you and others in the room feel
victimized, and they vocalize it, .... let others know so the Plaza can take
their millions and paint the room, at least. This is not about wanting to
"BUY"a few tomatoes and being told they could not sell them and people
responses to it, this is about a large Las Vegas hotel having surroundings
so bad that the guests in there were complaining verbally, and one family
that I saw leaving. Yup, the experience that I and others had in this
buffet will really make people have the positive experience of a lifetime.
They will remember the experience and return??? I think not. Customers
deserve to be treated with a smile and nicely (tell me when I am wrong), to
have a nice atmosphere that is clean and well lit (am I wrong yet?) and food
that is well presented and fresh. (Where was I wrong) None of these existed
there.

Just to share some great buffets, here they are. Some good buffets, to
just mention a few, are at The Aladdin, Ballys, Monte Carlo, Mandalay Bay,
Luxor, Excalibur, Tropicana, The Paris, Caesars Palace, Palace Station,
Stratosphere Tower, Texas Station and the Fiesta. I know I left a lot out,
I just don't want to have to list every casino in Vegas! The list of
good buffets abound all over the city. Customers and tourism is the life of
my hometown, and I have the right as everyone here does to share the
realities of an experience whether you had it or not, agreed??? If we
followed the illogical point that only good news is to be posted ...well,
that does not work. Go eat at their Chinese buffet advertised from a banner
hanging down maybe ten stories outside, and tell me what you think Peter. I
think we'll agree. It needs a lot of work, a LOT of work!

Peter, I am responsible for my posts. If others want to chime in and
share a supporting or dissenting view, that is them, and not "a lot of
complaining". People have the right to know before they get there. Tourism
is the life blood of this city, a slacker is bad for everyone. If you feel
my description is acceptable then, to you, it is acceptable for yourself
first, then others. I cannot do that personally.

Take care, have a great one Uncle Peter. Always nice to see your posts,
sincerely.

Diner, "Waiter this meal you served my wife, is not fit to serve to a pig".

Waiter, "If you care to wait sir, I will bring her one that is".

Thought our colonial cousins might relish a bit of British humour.

Tappy.

I ate there 3 years ago and agree, it was the pits. I'm not sure how
we even ended going in there, but I remember being real creeped out by
the whole place in terms of cleanliness, atomosphere, and food
quality. It was lousy, I'm suprised to hear it hasn't been shut down
yet!

It was a buffet. How many of those horse-troughs do you have to belly
up to before you realize they're universally cut-rate?

Other than morons like Streval and Big Mikey, I doubt anyone around
here really believes "that is true." Most of us understand that cities
such as Rome,Paris,NY still exist. Given that there are about ten or
fifteen (that is with a major benefit of the doubt) really fine
restaurants in LV the City is probably on a par with medium size
cities.(Miami,SF,Milan etc.)The advantage to LV is that most of the
restaurants are in a relatively small area and did I mention that there
is gambling in LV.
Thomas, you have to remember that Streval and BM are not the most
sophisticated of travelers. And besides everything BM says is based
purely on trying to convince people he lives in LV. AS to Streval he
just types and does not have a clue as to what he has just typed.

Re: Worst Buffet I have ever eaten....

Meanwhile I have indeed traveled worldwide, eaten at great places and have
forgotten more than you will ever know or learn. I really doubt you have
been anywhere yourself or make accusations of me.

NY and LA are still #1 for food while SF in my opinion has more moderately
good restaurants than any city. Chicago, Miami and New Orleans have cuisine
all there own. Ever had ribs in Kansas City or Memphis, Lobster in Boston
or Crab Cakes in Maryland? I have.

You talk but nothing but shit rolls off your garbage mouth.

Las Vegas has some excellent places as many restuarant reviewers have
agreed.

I have not eaten in Rome, but food in Paris is overpriced and really not
that great. Most french food is just plain snobbish and completely
overrated. I never travel to France again, I will not miss it.

Now piss off and eat your Sonic Burger...

Absolutely, Cregg. I will match Rosemary's against any neighborhood

Re: Worst Buffet I have ever eaten....

The worst Las Vegas buffet I've ever had was a breakfast buffet at The
Fitz downtown.
And that's saying a lot because I've also had the midnight buffet at the
Boardwalk, which
was actually not as bad as I was warned it would be.

A bunch of us walked out of the Circus Circus buffet one morning
after seeing mouldy oranges going through the squeezer.

I walked out of the Tropicana buffet after seeing cockroaches in
the salad bowl.

And you know this by having eaten in some of the finest buffets and
fast food outlets in those respective cities. Look at your posts on
this NG. They don't exactly give the impression that you are a
gourmet.

Chicago, Miami and New Orleans have cuisine

Ever had kangaroo in Australia, Blubber in the arctic, dingbat in
Darwin. galaps in the Galapagos, greens in Greenland. You have to be
the biggest idiot on usenet.(OK that is hyperbole. One of the biggest
idiots)

What can I say? You have written off what most of the planet considers
the finest cuisine in the world. You must be right and the people on
this NG believe you live in LV.

Listen Big Moron, just stop and read what you have written before you
hit send. In post after post you make yourself look like a fool. Don't
you sometimes get tired of always playing the idiot?

Re: Worst Buffet I have ever eaten....

Up until recently I considered The Feast at Palace Station to be my worst. That
title now goes to The Festival Buffet at Foxwoods.

At least at Palace Station you could say you got what you paid for because it
certainly was cheap, but Foxwoods is absolutely gawd-awful for the $15 they
charge (tax included of course).

For starters, the tiny shrimp they serve are peel-and-eat, a hassle all in
itself. Overcooked muscles couldn't even be chewed, and the salad station had
about half the fixings you'd find at most places.

The server at the carving station said it was prime rib, but the meat I ate was
more like a well done pot roast ... just awful. To go with that treat, the sign
said mashed potatoes but should have read INSTANT potatoes as they looked, felt,
and tasted like something just out of a cement mixer.

Their other stations had mostly items you'd find in the frozen food section of
your local supermarket and tasted just as bad, except for their Chinese station
which had a few good items. I doubt Foxwoods actually cooks any of the food
themselves, just reheats already prepared stuff.

Deserts were OK, but how hard is it to mess up a chocolate cake or apple pie?
Again, I've seen better selections at far too many other places.

For me the buffet at Ceasars Palace beats Foxwoods by far. Last time I was at
Ceasars the buffet was $21 so it's not much more than Foxwoods but far
outdistances it in quality and selection alone.

Re: Worst Buffet I have ever eaten....

So tell me Norm, who besides YOU call French food gourmet that much anymore?
Sorry Norm but you can eat the smails-not me. Let me see: Emeril, Flay,
Puck? These guys are French cooks? Nope.

By the way, most of the world cuisine is many things but definately NOT
French.

Even the French are eating more AMERICAN food (I know, I have been there
several times) and drive AMERICAN cars (FORD is #1 in France).

Other than insulting me, you offer nothing here. And I don't write for you
nor do I care what your opinion of me is. Until we meet in person, you are
nothng but a coward behind a computer, and a putz.

Re: Worst Buffet I have ever eaten....

Thank you. We have internationally acclaimed restaurants here in Vegas. To
mention them at this part in the conversation is a waste of time and serves
to make verbal cannon fodder. But you can have the greatest food here in
Las Vegas, you just have to know or move in the circles that know where the
French, Greek, Italian and the best Soul Food around. I'll eat Fried
Chicken, hot corn bread, fried okra, a nice salad with them teeny 'maters in
it, iced tea and sugar free 'naner puddin in a NY second! You can find it
all here in Vegas, if you are in the know...ya know.

It'll be in a clean atmosphere, with nice folks, or like anyone that will
not eat bad food in a dirty environ, ...I book up and leave. You would not
do the same?

And in regards to French food, they measure their class and sophistication
by their ability to turn their nose up at very good food, then go home and
eat less. If it stinks, I say "Hey, what smells French in here", buncha
stuck up French bastards. Right or wrong, screw us up and cost lives in
wars because of Machiavellian business arrangements, I remember dat shit
when I eat as well. ....tell me I am not saying what so many think.

Vegas has the greatest restaurants in the world, ...for the people that
know good food when they eat it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to eat
a hamburger steak with a salad and green beans (not French cut mind you!)
and no French fries. And of course, with iced TEA!!
