Vietnamese GDP Grows 7.7 Percent in 2004
Hanoi, Dec 29 (Prensa Latina) The Vietnamese Gross Domestic Product rose by
7.7 percent in 2004, as scheduled by the Parliament, according to the
Government Office in Hanoi.
Prime Minister Pham Van Khaki asserted that figure was higher than the
7.24 percent registered in 2003, during the closing session of Parliament.
The Council of Ministers recalled that the stable national growth stemmed
from the increase of industrial production, construction and exports.
The industrial sectors increased by 10.2 percent, services (7.5 percent)
and agriculture, fishing and forestry (3.5 percent each).
Other areas registering rises were exports (28.9 percent) and direct
foreign investments (28.5 percent) if compared to 2003.
Data by the Government Office revealed that exports valued at 26 billion
USD, clearly exceeding the 22.4 billion dollar prediction.
Coal, natural gas, processed sea food, sugar; fertilizers, steel sheets
and electric engines are among goods with largest increases.
Retail prices registered a 9.5 percent growth and nearly three million
tourists visited Vietnam, representing 31 percent rise if compared to last
year.
In addition, programs to eliminate hunger and poverty helped reduce the
number of affected people to 8.31 percent.
The Planning, Investment and Trade ministers briefed the Council of
Ministers on these statistics.
Closing the meeting, PM Pham Van Khaki urged participants to step up
actions to improve the quality of growth and enhance the national economy4s
sustainable development.
Pham Van Khaki said that the 2005 main goal was to increase the GDP by
8.5 percent by applying measures to augment agro-industrial production,
develop services and exports and improve the quality of products.
