Russia Highlights Energy Cooperation with Iran for 2005
Moscow, Dec 29 (Prensa Latina) Rusia and Iran are planning to bring
bilateral cooperation to new heights with the joint construction of the
Bushara electro nuclear station4s first reactor in 2005, it was revealed
Wednesday here.
Russian experts have been collaborating with that Islamic nation since
mid 90s, Atomic Energy Federal Agency Director Alexander Rumiantsev told
press.
He highlighted the work by experts in charge of setting up the first
group of generators of the ENS, which will reach some 1,000 megawatts.
This complex, to start working by the end of 2005, will be servicing
clients by 2006, he said.
Sources told Prensa Latina Russia began negotiations to return all the
waste fuel before the Iranian station starts working.
Both nations are also studying the prospects of a second generator group
and building six other thermonuclear stations.
Despite harsh criticism from the United States, Russia maintains close
cooperation with Teheran4s energy programs, which have peaceful objectives,
according to the Islamic Republic.
Exports and services rendered in the nuclear sector reached $500 million
in 2004, compared to the previous year, representing over $3.5 billion,
Rumiantsev added.
