honduras bus attack?

So, what's the deal on this anyway, from anyone who is living in the SPS
area? Seems to me like a possibly isolated incident? And the authorities
have arrested suspects, no? What about the likelihood of further attacks
as the Feb election draws near?

Is this an ongoing/growing problem? Anything to cause travellers to
avoid Honduras? Opinions? I'm travelling to CA beginning in early
February and was planning on an extended stay in the Bay Islands before
moving on to Belize and Guatemala...

It was supposedly organized by gang members in Comayagua. I'm sure some of
the people living in Honduras that frequent this group can add more details,
or you if you read Spanish you can go to La Prensa:
http://www.laprensahn.com/

I'm sure it was the gangs, but the violence in general in Honduras seems to
be escalating. Christmas day my sister-in-law's husband and his friend were
shot and killed outside a Comayagua bar. That too officially was blamed on
gang members, though witnesses said it was the result of an argument.
Things like that happen everywhere, though it seems like lately Honduras had
had more than it's fair share. Lots of people carrying guns, drinking and
playing out the "macho" stereotype.

Be safe everybody,

Steve

Re: honduras bus attack?

The Bay Islands and the Honduran mainland have very little in common.
Further the areas that most violence occurs in is not where you will
likely be.

I do see things getting nasty as the election draws nearer but I will
still go there and not be concerned for my safety or my families.I'll
just be careful of where I go and keep a low profile.

Just like you can visit New York or LA and not get mugged, just watch
your neighborhood surroundings and don't be stupid.

But as for the Bays - don't give it a worry.
