India tsunami alert sparks panic

[Caption] Tamil Nadu bore the brunt of Sunday's tsunami
in India Thousands of people have fled coastal areas of
southern India after a government warning of new
tsunamis.

The alert was issued by officials in Tamil Nadu state,
which was particularly hard hit by Sunday's Indian Ocean
sea surges.

They said aftershocks in the Andaman and Nicobar islands
were likely to cause high waves.

Thousands of Indians died in the tsunamis that followed
the huge undersea earthquake off Indonesia.

Indian officials say they were warned of fresh tremors by
the country's space research organisation.

However the BBC's Matthew Grant in Tamil Nadu says a
spokesman from the Indian Space Research Organisation
could not confirm that the information was correct.

There have been a series of aftershocks in the Indian
Ocean since Sunday's earthquake -- most recently in the
early hours of Thursday -- although none have triggered
large waves so far.

Meanwhile medical teams in southern India are engaged in
a mass vaccination campaign to try to prevent the spread
of diseases among survivors.

At least 130,000 people coast are estimated to have been
left homeless by the tsunami.

The government says nearly 7,000 deaths have been
confirmed in India.

fury in Southern Bharat, Shri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand,
etc. is beyond comprehension. No words or pictures can
describe the horror of deaths and devastation. While
hundreds of organizations, governments and international
agencies are working on providing relief and succor to
the victims of this tragedy, there still would be need
for many more organizations, groups and individuals to
lend a helping hand.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America's creed is Seva, i.e.
social service.

Whether it is the Gujarat earthquake or World Trade
Center tragedy, VHPA has been in the forefront of raising
funds and making sure that the donations are channeled to
responsible, respected and accountable organizations to
ensure that the funds reach the very people for whom they
are intended. VHPA has over 25 years record of
transparency, efficiency and volunteerism when it comes
to help the victims of tragedies such as the Tsunami and
earthquake that has visited parts of Asian continent.

We request you to contribute generously and spread the
word by email, phone or personal contact to as many
people as possible.

100% of the funds will be sent to organizations with
unimpeachable integrity for helping the victims without
consideration of race, religion or creed. This is the
