Re: AA ends food service on ALL domestic flights (incl. Hawaii)

I stopped depending on airline food some time ago. The day before a
flight I buy some cheese, meat, carrots, etc and have my own buffet
during the flight along with bottled water and cookies or pastries.
About the only thing I get served from the airline is coffee.

Re: AA ends food service on ALL domestic flights (incl. Hawaii)

No great loss... The food sucked anyway.
I understand that they will probably be putting in vending machines.

Kim Chee? <lol>
The other passengers are going to just love you!

I usually just travel with cheese sticks and nuts.

Did you watch the news accounts of people stranded at airports for
days during the Christmas Holidays, often with the luggage sent to
who-knows-where?

That, along with the crappy food should inspire the public to rise up
and say "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore".

Basically, they should refuse to pay for crappy service and boycott
all the bad airlines until they fail and go bankrupt.

Those that survive and thrive will be the ones that know how to treat
their customers right.

I've never understood why people want to be fed on airlines. The food
is bad, and with the exception of international, the flights don't last
long enough that a meal (or even a snack) is needed.

This is the problem. Most people are getting what they paid for.
They pay very little for a ticket, and get very little in return.
Rediculiously low fares require cutbacks in services. If everyone on
the plane paid just a small amount more for their tickets, the
airlines would not be searching for services to cut in order to get
the books out of the red. However, with most people searching for
only the lowest fare, cuts have to be made.

Personally, I find a sub-sandwich from Quiznos that I can put in
a carry-on to be a fine solution. Once, a flight attendant expressed
envy. Let's face it, the public prefers crappy & cramped service
becuz they prefer low prices; hence, the success of no-frills airlines.

Yup. We had a small airline flying out of Newburgh, NY that offered $95
dollar flights from there to Vegas. We used them once and had no
problems. They went under because they said that to just break into the
black they'd need to raise the fare to $110 and when they tried that, no
one bought tickets. So they left.

Now the same flights (different airlines of course) are around the $350
range. Makes sense doesn't it? <confused>

If they start charging for food, the next step is
to prohibit you from bringing you on food on board,
especially for very long flights. The step after that
is, again on very long flights, to charge $12
for a sandwich.

I won't be as blunt as Rod on this. Not many people will boycott an airline
because of the food issue. Eat before the flight, or take it with you. I
just have to get from point A to point B. I can eat anytime before, during
or after.

Great Idea! A nice thick Limburger Cheese & Onion Sandwich. You'll have
half the cabin to yourself.

forget the carrots if you're flying from Hawaii.
The Agriculture Inspection will take them away from you.

and what if your domestic flight follows an intercontinental
one and you've already been on your feet for 18-20 hours?

(Done Europe - Hawaii in one go a few times - both ways,
for work, not vacation).

cabin services would still be cut. pax want ever cheaper prices, fuel
bills have been agony for operators this year. hedging has helped
somewhat, but costs have been increasing badly this year.
