JFK to New York City

Hi
Can you tell me the best way to get from JFK to Grand Central Station.
I will be travelling on my own (female) around 5.20pm in the evening in
April. I want to get there safely without being ripped off. I have
heard to go online and look at limos, can I catch a cab or a shuttle.
The operative word is safely.
Cheers Lisa

"safely" isn't going to help you make a decision; these are all safe options
unless you catch an unlicensed taxi from the curb. As is the subway
(perfectly safe). It's all about time, comfort, and cost.

There is a nonstop shuttle bus from JFK to Grand Central Station. It's
perfectly safe. A cab is worth looking into for three or more people,
but for one person, the shuttle is just as quick and costs a lot less.

Re: JFK to New York City

If you just have one or two bags with you, then public transportation
will get you from JFK to Grand Central quite safely and probably faster
than taxis or shuttles given it would be during rush hour (if you're
lugging a lot around, public transportation can be a bit more of a
hassle). I'd recommend taking the Q10 (Lefferts Ave) bus to the end of
the A train at Lefferts - trains ought to be leaving every 5 minutes or
so at this time. You can switch to the 4 or 5 trains at Fulton St.
when you get into Manhattan, which will take you directly to Grand
Central. It'll probably take 60-90 minutes and should cost you only $2
($4 if you can't get a transfer from the bus). At 5:20pm, this is also
a very safe way to go - single women (and men) commute on these buses
and trains at this time every day. So you know exactly where you're
going, you may want to visit the mta website, mta.info .

Re: JFK to New York City

The simplest (but expensive) way is to take a taxi ($45 flat rate to
anywhere in Manhattan + toll). Or, you can take the "Air Train" from
JFK to the "A" line subway. Take the "A" line into Manhattan (not sure
which station you would exit which would put you close to Grand Central
Station).

Since she's going to Grand Central, it would make a lot more sense to
take the Airport Express Shuttle. It goes directly to Grand Central
with no intermediate stops, so it's just as fast as the taxi and costs
about $15 or so.

This might be fine if she has little luggage, but if not I would
suggest the shuttle.

Re: JFK to New York City

It's my first time in NYC, and after a 20 hour flight I don't really
want to work out the subway system in peak hour with luggage. I think
I will go with the shuttle if not a taxi. I know one thing for sure, I
won't be getting a car service or limosine, I'd prefer to save my $$$
for time in New York.
Thanks for all your help!
