Re: Universal Florida Patty

Excuse me but all the parks are not referred to as Disney World. Disney
World and the Magic Kingdom is one in the same. At least thats how I
feel as when Disney opened the park was called Disney World and the one
in California is called Disney Land.

The park in Florida has always been called "The Magic Kingdom" and the
entire complex has always been known as "Walt Disney World". I have
guidebooks back from 1972 and they clearly state "The Magic Kingdom" as the
name of the park.

When I worked there (from 1974-1977) we were advised a number of "correct"
ways to state things.

1) The park was always "The Magic Kingdom". Never anything else.
2) It was *never* Disneyworld. It was always WALT Disney World. On the
Jungle Cruise, dropping the "Walt" was a verbal reprimand if caught (have
times changed!)
3) It was always Walt Disney. Never Disney. (see above).
4) They were never hotels. They were resorts. As in Contemporary Resort
hotel. Fort Wilderness Campground Resort.

I happen to have a copy of Bob Sehlinger's "Mini Mickey: The
Pocket-Sized Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (2000)" sitting on my
desk. Here is what is says about the name (pages 2-3):

"Walt Disney World encompasses 43 square miles, an area twice as
large as Manhattan island. In this expanse are the Magic Kingdom,
Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, and the Animal Kingdom theme parks, two
night-life areas, a sports complex, golf courses, hotels and
campgrounds, almost a hundred restaurants, four interconnected lakes, a
shopping complex, three convention venues, a nature preserve, and a
transportation system.
"The formal name is Walt Disney World, but most tourists refer to
the entire Florida Disney facility simply as Disney World. The Magic
Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, and the Animal Kingdom are thought
of as being 'in' Disney World."

Great book, BTW. Highly recommended if you are going to visit the park
any time soon.
