It's arguably the best place of its kind, worth every cent of full price.

Single day discounts tend to be hard to come by.
If you buy some sort of package you'll do better.
This can include tickets bundled with hotel rooms.
BTW, Disney ain't much different. AAA possibly
but that would be about it.

What if I go with someone who has a FL driver's license? And if so, is that
available at the entrance or is there some other mechanism?

Sorry but it has to be single day. My mother lives 3 hours from Orlando.
It'll be a day drive up during a visit to mom. Not interested in a Disney
vacation....just a day trip to Universal.

Re: Universal Florida

I would skip Universal and go to Disney. We had the worst time there and
Disney is so much nicer.

And our family had a great time at both. It should not be a simple
choice between the two... There is a Universal Studio experience and
an MGM Studio experience at DisneyWorld. They are both good. Of
course DisneyWorld has so much more too, but it takes days and days to
do it all. If you want to do a one day "Studio Tour" I would pick
Universal. If you have three or four days of course do DisneyWorld
and include MGM as one of your days there.

Re: Universal Florida

I personally like Universal over MGM and that was before all the new
stuff was even built.

Florida drivers license is best bet, second would be AAA for single day
discounts. Unless you wanted to set aside like 2-3 hours and go watch a
timeshare presentation and pick up tickets for FREE. Time is money
though.

I asked the original question. I've been to Universal without the family
and Disney with the family. We've done Disney. I very much enjoyed
Universal and want to go back....with the family.

A close second is the Disney/MGM theme park.

But Disneyworld? Been there. Done that. Don't need to go back.

Precisely. This isn't an Orlando vacation. It is a trip to Florida to see
my mother, and a one day excursion to Orlando. I plan to spend that day at
Universal.

Time Share? There's the ticket! I took my wife to be to one of those
presentations early in our relationship. She married me anyway!

I'm confused. Disney-MGM Studios is part of Walt Disney World;
it's one of the four theme parks there. So if you've "been there;
done that" and aren't interested in going back to Disney World,
how could D-MGM be on your list of possibilities?

BTW, if you need any more WDW information, there's an excellent
unofficial WDW site at:

http://www.allearsnet.com/

Whichever park you choose, have fun!

Re: Universal Florida

I've been to the DisneyWorld, Disney MGM and Epcot parts of the Disney
theme park. I've also been to Universal. I have no desire to go back
to Disneyworld or Epcot, though I wouldn't mind going back to
DisneyMGM. My kids have never been to a movie theme park....my trip to
DisneyMGM was with my wife before we had kids and my trip to Universal
was on my own while at a meeting in Orlando. I've been to Disneyworld
with the kids and while it was fun, we all thought it was overrated.
Especially for the price of admission. If I'm misnaming Disneyworld,
I'm sorry....I'm thinking of the Disney theme park in the Disney
complex. You know, the one with Space Mountain.

In my personal opinion, having been to both, I liked Universal better
than DisneyMGM...though I did enjoy both of them. I do like the movie
theme parks in general better than the other Disney attractions.

Which brings me back to my original question...discount tickets to
Universal. It seems that a FL license or AAA are the only options
mentioned so far. Fortunately, my mother has a FL license. And I have
AAA.

Re: Universal Florida

Different people like different things. A shopping trip is the LAST
thing I would do on a vacation! I only go into a store while on
vacation if I forgot something I need. Well, OK, I do look at some
chintzy tourist stuff sometimes. I have one day. I intend to spend
as much of it as possible at Universal. That's all.

Okay, now I understsand. Yes, you're saying "DisneyWorld" when you mean
to say "Magic Kingdom". Disney World encompasses four theme parks (MK,
Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney-MGM Studios) as well as more than 20
hotels, two water parks, and two entertainment districts. It's 47
square miles of property!

Why? It's indistinguishable from any other non-urb except for all the
signs offering discount tickets to the local attractions.

Patronize your local merchants; they employ your neighbors who spend
their money on the goods and services that allow you to keep the job
at which you earn a living. Let the people of Orlando patronize theirs.
