job opportunities in Russia

I am reading the Russian news on the Internet and the Usenet
discussions. The common agreement is that nowdays in Russia there are
more employers than (sufficiently quialified) job-seekers. One
particular case in study are IT specialists. E.g. I read a story that a
financial outfit in Moscow advertised an IT position, found a
candidate, interviewed him and offered the job. The candidate was
thinking about the offer for a week, and the financial outfit employer
finally found out that the guy accepted the job offer somewhere else.
The financial outfit did not have another candidate to interview. They
blamed the person that his delayed refusal of the offer caused the
outfit a financial loss. This situation is unthinkable in the West.
Mind you, the salary was about US$500/mo which provides a noticably
better lifestyle than an average salary of a white man in the US.
Regards,
Val

Re: job opportunities in Russia

This is not unique to Russia. There have been boom times in the USA,
for example the late 1990s. People would switch comapnies for bonuses
and higher salaries without completing a project. Its estimated a
technical
job might take 3-6 months salary to fill and get the employee up to
speed.

In my experience these quick-changers developed poor reputation and
did not fare as well during the subsequent downturn.

Much better than living trailer-trash lifestyle in the US.
Dont get carried away with this "lifestyle in the US" as though it
doesnt exist anywhere else.
